KEITH RILEY

PARTNER – PROJECT PROCUREMENT AND FUNDING

Keith Riley studied Nuclear Engineering at Queen Mary College, University of London, followed by a graduate apprenticeship at Rolls Royce Aero Engines. This began a successful career in which he led the design and construction of multi-million pound projects all around the world. Since 1993 Keith has been involved at a senior level in the waste management industry, and was responsible for the formation of Hampshire Waste Services Ltd. Under his leadership the company worked with officers and Members of Hampshire County council to create ‘Project Integra’, a partnership between 14 local authorities and HWS, which went on to win Beacon status. Hampshire’s success in recycling and recovering value from waste through an integrated network of facilities is now world famous, and has formed the model upon which international waste management companies in the UK now operate in partnership arrangements. Keith worked for Veolia Environmental Services for nearly 20 years, with his final position as Group Managing Director, Technology.

Keith is currently Chairman and CEO of Energy Gap (UK) Ltd. He is also a Director of several other companies, including the Institute for Sustainability. Until June 2012 he was Deputy Chairman of the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA). He is a Visiting Professor within the School of Civil Engineering and Environment at the University of Southampton, and a member of the Industrial Advisory Panel for the MSc in Environmental Engineering at Imperial College.

He is also a Trustee of the Veolia Environmental Trust. He is an established public speaker on a range of technical, economic and social issues related to waste and resource management and sustainable development. He was awarded the James Jackson Medal of the CIWM in 2005 for the paper ‘From Waste to Resource Management’, a tripartite view from industry, local government and academia.

JAMES HOULSTON

PARTNER – PROJECT PROCUREMENT AND FUNDING

James studied Estate Management at Oxford Brookes University and subsequently qualified as a chartered surveyor during his days as a retail agent for King Sturge. In 2000 James joined Business Homes, a successful property development company specialising in commercial offices. With over 8 years of experience as Managing Director James was personally involved with over 1,300,000 sq ft of commercial development across 40 projects throughout the UK between 2000 and 2009. He transformed Business Homes from a small Northern focused development business into a market leading national developer with developments reaching from Aberdeen to Southampton.

Since 2009, James has focused on the creation of a number of businesses in the renewable energy sector, creating funding models which address the shortage of funding in specific market sectors such as Energy from Waste.

James’ role within BH EnergyGap is to act as the point of contact with banks and funds, identify and secure funding for specific projects, identify and secure new projects and procure and deliver projects through to completion or commissioning.

ALASDAIR MACCONNELL

PARTNER – PROJECT PROCUREMENT AND FUNDING

Alasdair has over 23 years board level experience gained at two of the most active and successful property companies in the UK; CALA Group (where he was Managing Director of CALA Properties and a member of the Group’s Executive board) and with the Scarborough/Teesland organisations.
Alasdair has a successful track record in commercial property, creating profitable organisations and ventures by developing and leading executive and project teams, negotiating and securing finance from major funds and banks, and bringing complex projects in on time and on budget.

ROD GOODSON

CONSULTANT – PROJECT PROCUREMENT

Rod Goodson is a Chartered Civil and Structural Engineer of many years standing. Having started his career with Truscon in Liverpool in 1961 he progressed successfully through a range of consulting engineer practices, becoming Associate at H L Waterman & Partners and Partner with Deakin Callard & Partners. In 1993, he successfully negotiated the acquisition of Deakin Callard & Partners, Edinburgh office and formed his own company – Goodson Associates. He retired from Goodson Associates in 2004, leaving behind him one of the few independent and highly regarded engineering practices in Edinburgh. The firm continues successfully today.

His experience encompasses all aspects of design across the full spectrum of civil and structural engineering. This diversity never more evident than when, in 1988, following the Lockerbie disaster, he was appointed consultant to Pan-Am to mitigate losses resulting

NIC RIGBY

REGULATORY CONTRACTS

Nic is a Fellow of the Energy Institute and a Chartered Engineer with 35 years of experience in the energy industry. He previously worked for Low Carbon Contracts Ltd setting up their contract management team. Nic is responsible for energy related commercial matters and associated regulatory management. Nic is also an adviser to Carbon Connect the All Party Parliamentary advisory group.

JEANNETTE BUCKLE

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

Jeannette Buckle has worked in the environmental sector for over 25 years. She has experience in waste management solutions, various environmental technologies and development of large infrastructure.

Specializing in stakeholder engagement she chairs and/or facilitates various stakeholder engagement initiatives, develops communication strategies and project manages their delivery; including stakeholder engagement events, exhibitions, managing risk, advises on reactive or proactive PR strategies for Waste Management facilities including Energy from Waste and provides detailed support within the planning process for applications.

ROGER FERGUSON

WASTE PROCUREMENT

Having spent 30 years in the waste industry Roger has occupied senior roles in major waste companies and consultancies.  In those roles he has covered everything from medical waste to RDF/SRF and energy from waste projects.  Roger’s role is to ensure the effective supply of contracted waste into the EfW plants being developed by BHEG.

JOHN TERRILL

FINANCE & FUNDING CONSULTANT

John is a Chartered Accountant who has worked in the waste sector for many years, providing consultancy services to organisations in the waste sector in relation to all aspects of waste projects, from bidding, through achievement of financial close to ongoing management of construction and operations. He has advised and worked with teams that successfully achieved financial close on the Derby City & Derbyshire waste procurement, having originally provided consultancy for the project under which it was appointed preferred bidder. Prior to this he was instrumental to achieving financial close on the Wakefield PFI project and provided advice on the BDR PFI which closed in 2012.

NICK DAWBER

PROCESS ENGINEERING

Nick has been involved in the waste related energy sector since 1990 and with energy from waste/gasification since 2002. He has been directly responsible for developing and growing several operating companies and businesses in both energy from waste and landfill gas, including the development of the necessary resources to deliver projects and operate and maintain the assets.

His experience in operations, as a technology supplier and with an EPC Contractor, provides him with a broad understanding of the energy from waste market. Nick successfully, in his previous roles, secured 5 major contracts, valued at over €300m to deliver circa 580,000 tpa of treatment capacity. A Marine Engineer, Nick also comes with experience in the offshore natural gas industry before coming into the waste and energy sectors. Nick is responsible for developing and negotiating EPC/O&M contracts and schedules and related project technical matters.
